Snap-on dentures, also called snap-in dentures, implant-retained dentures or overdentures, are removable dentures that clip onto dental implants. Two to four implants hold the denture firmly in place while you eat and talk, and you unclip it each night to clean it. Texas Gentle Dental serves Katy (77449, 77450, 77494), Cinco Ranch and the west Houston area. For every type of denture we offer, see our Katy dentures guide.
How Snap-On Dentures Work
Two to four titanium implants are placed in your jawbone. Once they've healed, small ball or bar attachments are fitted to the implants. Your custom denture has matching fittings on its underside that snap onto those attachments.
- Held in place: the attachments keep the denture from slipping or lifting while you eat and speak.
- No adhesive: you don't need denture paste to keep it in.
- Easy to clean: you unclip the denture yourself to brush it and the attachments.

Snap-On Dentures vs Traditional Dentures
- Stability: snap-on dentures lock onto implants. Traditional dentures rest on the gums and rely on suction or adhesive.
- Chewing: because they don't shift, snap-on dentures make it easier to eat a wider range of foods.
- Jawbone: the jawbone slowly shrinks after teeth are lost. Implants put pressure on the bone when you chew, which helps slow that loss. A traditional denture doesn't.
- Treatment: traditional dentures don't need surgery. Snap-on dentures need implant surgery and a few months of healing first.
Snap-On Dentures vs Fixed Hybrid Dentures
You take snap-on dentures out each night. Hybrid or All-on-4 dentures are fixed to the implants, and only a dentist removes them. Fixed dentures feel more like natural teeth but usually cost more. Both are good options, and the right one depends on your bone, your budget and whether you'd prefer a denture you can remove.
Are Snap-On Dentures Right for You?
Snap-on dentures are often a good fit if you:
- wear a lower denture that keeps slipping
- are tired of denture adhesive
- want more stability than a traditional denture but a lower cost than fixed teeth
- have enough jawbone for implants, or are able to have bone grafting first
What to Expect
- Consultation and imaging: we examine your mouth, check your jawbone with X-rays and plan where the implants will go.
- Implant placement: the implants are placed under local anesthesia.
- Healing: the implants bond with the bone over a few months. You can usually wear a temporary or adjusted denture during this time.
- Attachments and your new denture: we fit the attachments and connect your custom snap-on denture.
- Check-ups: the small clips inside the denture wear over time, and we replace them during routine visits.
Cost, Insurance and Payment Options
- 2-implant snap-on (lower arch): $3,500–$6,000
- 4-implant snap-on (full arch): $5,000–$12,000
Your exact cost depends on how many implants you need and whether you need extractions or bone grafting first. We'll give you a clear estimate after your consultation. We accept CareCredit, offer payment plans and work with most insurance providers, and we'll check your benefits for you. See our affordable dentures, financing and insurance pages.

Frequently Asked Questions — Snap-On Dentures
How long do snap-on dentures last?
With good care and regular check-ups, the implants can last for many years. The denture itself wears over time and may need relining or replacing, and the small clips inside it are replaced as they wear. We'll check all three at your visits.
Does getting snap-on dentures hurt?
Implant placement is done under local anesthesia. Most patients have some soreness for a few days afterward, which is usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.
Can I eat normally with snap-on dentures?
Most people find they can eat far more comfortably than with a traditional denture. It's still best to avoid very hard or sticky foods, which can wear the clips or stress the implants.
How many implants do snap-on dentures need?
Usually two for a lower denture and four for an upper denture, but it depends on your jawbone. We'll recommend the number that will hold your denture securely.
Does Medicare cover snap-on dentures?
In most cases, Original Medicare doesn't cover dentures or dental implants. Some Medicare Advantage plans include dental benefits. Bring your plan details, and we'll check what's covered.
