Keep Your Teeth Clean of Tartar
Teeth Clean of Tartar
Gentle Dental will provide you with the best smiles possible. We take pride in taking care of our clients. One way we urge our clients to keep those smiles as clean as possible is by keeping good hygiene for their own teeth. Over time, plaque and tartar can build up which will damage the teeth if not removed. You have most certainly heard of plaque from your dentist. Tartar is another threat teeth have to face.

Make sure you take care of your dental hygiene
Tartar is when plaque hardens. It is also called dental calculus. Over time, bacteria in your mouth mixes with food byproducts and proteins to create plaque. Plaque can easily be removed by practicing good teeth hygiene. However, if plaque is left on the teeth for long periods of time then it hardens into tartar.
Preventative Measures Against Tartar
Tartar can be found below and above the gum line. Gum disease or a receding gum line can occur if tartar is left unchecked. There are a number of ways to prevent tartar from building up in your mouth. You can see the full list of preventative measures below.
- Brush twice a day for a minute each
- Use an electronic toothbrush over a manual model
- Use a toothpaste with fluoride
- Floss
- Rinse out your mouth with an antiseptic daily
- Keep an eye on your diet
- Quit smoking

When is the last time you had your teeth cleaned?
If you have a large amount of tartar building up on your gums, we recommend seeing a dentist right away. Over time, bacteria can become irritated and cause pain. This is the last thing we want for anyone so, please, see dentists immediately. Once hardened, tartar cannot be removed. A dentist can remove this build-up with special tools designed for the job.
