Our Katy General Dentistry Services
Gentle Dental provides exceptional dental hygiene services. Good dental hygiene is the key to healthy teeth. While brushing twice per day and flossing helps, a certified dental hygienist enables you to maintain optimal dental health. Regular cleanings are the first step to preventing damaging and costly dental health issues. During teeth cleaning, a dental hygienist will clean plaque and biofilm from your teeth. After cleaning, you’ll notice that your breath smells nicer. Regular cleanings also prevent gum disease. Some people or children dislike dental cleanings because they can hurt. However, we call ourselves Gentle Dental Care for a reason. Our teeth cleanings are quick and painless and more than worth it.
Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a serious dental issue with even more serious consequences. Swollen and bleeding gum is a sign of gingivitis. Unless properly handled, gingivitis will cause gums to recede and your breath will smell bad. The same bacteria that caused the periodontal disease in the first place, produce odors and lead to tooth decay. When your teeth rot, you’ll need surgery. We’ll help you maintain healthy gums and save your smile in the process.
Regular teeth cleaning is the first step to healthy teeth and gums. If you want to take your smile to the next level, we also offer cosmetic dentistry and restorative services. We offer a variety of teeth whitening services. We can permanently whiten your teeth with lumineers. Alternatively, we can use a tray whitening system or the non-invasive ZOOM whitening system. Oral Surgery Services
Most people will have oral surgery at least once in their lives. The most common type of oral surgery is wisdom teeth extraction. Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars to grow in, usually between your late teens and early twenties. Though some people have wisdom teeth that naturally erupt and have enough room to grow, that is often not the case. Instead, wisdom teeth tend to grow in sideways or impacted. Unless a dental surgeon performs an extraction, impacted wisdom teeth cause other teeth to shift or crowd. Furthermore, impacted wisdom teeth can cause damage to the jaw. For these reasons, it’s important to have wisdom teeth extracted. As a part of routine dental care, we’ll check for wisdom teeth and let you know if we need to remove yours.
Another surgical procedure that we perform is bone grafting. During the bone grafting process, the jawbone is built to accommodate a dental implant. A dental implant is a tooth-colored prosthetic tooth used to replace a tooth that has been knocked out or otherwise removed. During bone grafting, We take a bone from another area of the mouth, but we may also use safe cadaver bones. You might need a bone graft if you need restorative dental work done.
For surgeries, we use your platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Platelets speed up dealing time and tissue restoration. Furthermore, using your platelets prevents infection caused by introducing foreign elements. Using platelet-rich plasma derived from the individual patient ensures a safer and smoother recovery process.
Other Dental Services We Offer
The list of dental services we provide also includes pediatric services, such as sealants. Sealants are placed over teeth to prevent cavities of the molars, and last long term, about ten years. Molars are more difficult to clean than other teeth, and therefore are prone to cavities. Molars begin to come in at around six years of age. The sealants will last your child until they are nearly adults.
At Gentle Dental, we also offer mouthguards. However, unlike the guards you can find at a sporting goods store, our mouthguards are custom-fitted for your child’s mouth. On top of that, we make our mouthguards out of superior materials. All in all, our custom mouthguards offer better protection for your child’s teeth. Additionally, we can provide night guards.
Did you know that we also offer oral cancer screening and biopsy? We recommend regular screening for oral cancer, primarily if you identify as high risk for cancer. Risk factors for cancer include:
- Using tobacco of any kind, including smokeless tobacco
- Family history of cancer
- Consume high amounts of alcohol
- Experience sun exposure often
- Have been diagnosed with HPV
Even if you don’t have any of the risk factors, you may show symptoms of oral cancer. Symptoms include white or red patches in the mouth, mouth bleeding, and ear pain. Come to Gentle Dental for a biopsy! We’ll take an oral sample and identify any concerns. Click here to learn more.
