Dental Implant FAQs
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a permanent new root for a missing tooth. It is a titanium screw that is placed into the jaw bone. An abutment and crown are then placed on the implant to provide a new tooth that is permanent and looks just like a natural tooth.
How are dental implants different than dentures?
Dentures are a removable set of teeth or partial set of teeth that need to be removed and cared for in a special manner. They can often feel bulky and are difficult to get used to. Dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth that can be cared for just like natural teeth.
What are the benefits of dental implants?
Dental implants look and feel just like real teeth, they are permanent, you can eat the foods you want without any fear of embarrassment, and the procedure is very successful and fairly inexpensive.
Are dental implants right for me?
Dental implants are ideal for people who need to replace only a few teeth, as they don’t require any alterations to be made to the surrounding teeth. Please set an appointment with us to schedule your consultation and candidacy for a dental implant treatment.
Who can place a dental implant?
Gentle Dental Care has Board Certified oral surgeons on staff to place your dental implant.
How much do implants cost?
The price of your dental implants will vary based on the level of experience of your doctor, how many implants you are having placed, the amount of insurance coverage, and more. Schedule a consultation with us to determine a price for your implants and a financing plan if necessary.
Do dental implants hurt?
Patients may feel some minor discomfort during and after the procedure. Our goal is to make sure you are comfortable. To ease discomfort during the treatment process, a local anesthetic will be given before the procedure. If you have anxiety or fear of surgical procedures, sedation may be an option.
How long do implants last?
With proper maintenance and care, dental implants can last for more than 20 years. Proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups are essential to the success of your implant.
How is a Dental Implant Procedure Performed?
The entire dental restoration process is performed in stages over a period of several months. The first step is to evaluate if the existing structures can support the implantation of a prosthetic device. Next, our specialist will install the implant on the bone. During this procedure, a small incision will be made in the gums to allow for the insertion of the implant. After the implant is installed, the gums will be sutured back together.
After the implant has healed and formed a tight bond with the bone, crowns may be installed. This is to afford the patient the ability to eat and speak normally during dental restoration. There is also the added benefit of having an aesthetically pleasing smile.
Following the healing process, our specialist will make a prosthetic tooth called an abutment. This abutment will then be installed into your mouth to restore your smile. After the abutment is installed, no further work is required. This implant is permanent and will function just like your natural teeth.
